China's fourth COVID-19 vaccine has been approved to start clinical trials, developed by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products.

On the evening of April 27, it was learned from China National Pharmaceutical Group Corporation (referred to as "China Biotech") that the inactivated COVID-19 vaccine developed by Beijing Institute of Biological Products (referred to as "Beijing Biotech") has obtained the clinical trial approval from the National Medical Products Administration, and clinical trials are expected to start on April 28.

So far, four COVID-19 vaccines have been approved for clinical trials in China, with the other three currently undergoing clinical trials. One of them is a recombinant novel coronavirus (2019-COV) vaccine (adenovirus vector) developed by a research team led by Academician Chen Wei from the Academy of Military Medical Sciences.

The other two vaccines are the inactivated COVID-19 vaccines developed in collaboration between Wuhan Institute of Biological Products and Wuhan Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and the inactivated COVID-19 vaccine Kexing Kelaifu™, developed by Beijing Kexing Zhongwei Biotechnology Co., Ltd., which was approved on April 13.

According to reports, the inactivated COVID-19 vaccine developed by Beijing Biotech is the second vaccine from China National Pharmaceutical Group to enter clinical trials, co-developed by Beijing Biotech and the Virus Disease Prevention and Control Institute of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

In addition, China Biotech has established a COVID-19 workshop construction team and has completed the construction of a COVID-19 vaccine production workshop in Beijing, with an annual production capacity of 100 million doses after mass production, meeting the production conditions for large-scale emergency use and routine vaccination.
